Mainstreet celebrates Artists Open Studios with Twilight Market

Katie Brown

Visit Mainstreet Exhibition and win an artwork valued at $400 Artists are busy readying works, anticipation is building and a buzz is beginning around this year’s Artists Open Studios Weekends and Whanganui Glass Festival. To celebrate the newly amalgamated festivals Mainstreet Wanganui will be holding a Twilight Market on Friday 27 March, the last Friday of the Festival. The market will be a great late night shopping opportunity for locals and visitors with entertainment, stalls, food and shops open until 9pm.

“Many of our local stores stock locally made, and New Zealand made artisan products, this is an opportunity for them to show off these products alongside local crafts people and producers with their own stalls,” says Mainstreet Marketing Manager Elise Goodge.

Friday 27th will also be a last chance to see the Mainstreet Exhibition before it is de-installed the following Monday. Thirty three businesses are hosting artist’s works in their windows creating a uniquely accessible 24 hour display. To entice visitors Mainstreet has created a competition. On Friday from 5pm you will be able to collect a guide sheet from Majestic Square. Use the guide to visit participating businesses and write down which artist is exhibiting in each window. Once you have all 33 return your sheet to Majestic Square to go into the draw to win an artwork by local artist Sue Cook valued at $400.

“We at Mainstreet are very excited to be collaborating with Artists Open Studios and the Glass Festival,” Elise continues, “we hope to continue to support this event and local artists into the future.”
