Dipak Patel’s 1992 One Day International Shirt to be Auctioned

Men’s Health will benefit from one of the most famous ‘One Day International’ playing shirts that will be auctioned to raise funds. The original playing shirt worn by Dipak Patel in the 1992 Cricket World Cup will go under the hammer on Monday 23 March at a Charity Dinner at Ellerslie Convention Centre.

Patel will be one of the guest speakers at the function along with, Sir Ian Botham, Australian Cricketer and funny man Damien Fleming, Mark Greatbatch and Wayne Phillips. Martin Crowe will be joining this illustrious group via video link.

Patel, who is famous for opening the bowling during the 1992 Cricket World Cup says, “This is one of my most treasured shirts from my playing days”. He adds, “I sold it to a private collector, Steve Wilkins during my testimonial season a number of years ago and he has decided to put it up for auction at the Men’s Health Charity Dinner”.

Chairman of Men’s Health Trust, Phil Clemas, says it’s a generous gesture which will assist the Trust to continuing with their initiatives to help raise awareness of issues surrounding men’s health.

“We’re all about helping guide men towards better lifestyle choices. We are traditionally very bad at proactively going to the doctor. We want that to change and for men to take responsibility for their health.”

In addition to corporate events involving well known New Zealanders willing to share inspirational stories, they also support tertiary students who are seeking careers in the health field through its scholarship programme in partnership with Unitec.

“Over the last five years, Men’s Health has awarded over 30 scholarships. The Trust also provides grants for research funding related to men’s health and has partnered with AUT and Otago Universities in separate initiatives. We’re looking at all aspects to get men thinking about their health.”
