NZ Goes for Guinness Record at World’s Biggest Waterslide

NZ Goes for Guinness Record at World’s Biggest Waterslide

Two enterprising local lads are taking Kiwi ingenuity to the world by helping one lucky New Zealander nab a Guinness World Record for being the first to take the plunge down the world’s biggest-ever inflatable waterslide this weekend, 28th & 29th March, by Bethells Beach.

Jimi Hunt and Dan Drupsteen are the brains behind registered NZ charity Live More Awesome and they have created the waterslide as just one of the many events they do to “live more awesome” and to raise money for mental health awareness initiatives.

“Both of us have suffered at the hands of depression,” explains Jimi. “We created Live More Awesome because we want to literally do just that – encourage everyone to live more awesome lives and in doing so beating depression along the way. We want to inspire others, especially mid-30s Kiwi males like ourselves to do the same.

“We’ve tested the slide extensively last weekend and it’s fast, really fast. We’re both extremely excited about for 10am kick-off this Saturday”.

While more than 500 people have fundraised for their chance to slip and slide down the 600m inflatable slide, it is Sam McIver who will officially be awarded the Guinness World Record for riding the World’s Biggest (inflatable) Waterslide. Sam is top of the leader board, having fundraised a whopping $3,388.

And even though all the fundraised tickets for the slide are sold, there are still some limited afternoon tickets available atwww.worldsbiggestwaterslide.com as well as spectator tickets available for both days.

The festival is being held on the iconically beautiful NZ property on the west coast and as well as the big slide, there are two other slides for festival goers to ride as well as performances from some of NZ’s top music producers, DJs and performances, all of whom have gifted their time to support this awesome local initiative. Wellness workshops will also take place throughout the day.

“This is a really important moment in time to talk about it and get these issues out in the open,” says Dan. “1 in 4 Kiwis suffer from depression and, as well as encouraging everyone to find joy in living more awesome, we also want to get a dialogue going that helps to foster optimal mental wellness and reduce the stigma associated with depression and mental illness. It’s okay to talk about it, and it’s ok to ask for help!”
