Extra chance to hear Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir in Wanaka

Extra chance to hear Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir in Wanaka

We are delighted to announce that we have been able to secure an additional performance by the very popular Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir, due to overwhelming public demand. Tickets for the additional concert at 2pm on Anzac Day (Saturday, 25 April) are on sale now . Restricted to two per person.

Both this and the original 6pm performance on the same day take place at Holy Family Catholic Church on Aubrey Road. The choir has been placed alongside the Vienna Boys Choir and Kings College Choir as one of the finest in Europe.

Festival Director, Philip Tremewan said the 46-strong choir’s popularity reflected its worldwide reputation and also the novelty of staging such a large ensemble in Wanaka. “It’s rare for a town as small as Wanaka to host such a large choir, especially one from overseas, but bringing performers here that the community wouldn’t normally get a chance to see is a key role for the festival,” he said.

“Thanks to the support of the Marsh Family Trust we’ve been able to include Wanaka on the choir’s New Zealand tour and I’m delighted that the extra recital will allow more people to enjoy their exceptional work.”

Mr Tremewan said classical music is strongly represented at this year’s festival and noted that some tickets are still available for other standout performers.

The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir has been resident at Copenhagen Cathedral since 1959 and as part of its duties performs at state occasions. The choir’s 2015 New Zealand tour also takes in Dunedin, Nelson, Wellington and Auckland.
