Joe Cross spills the juice on staying healthy

MEDIA RELEASE

8 April 2015

Wellness advocate Joe Cross spills the juice on staying healthy

Joe Cross first captured global attention five years ago with the juicing phenomenon that transformed his life and he hasn’t looked back.

Today, the motivational health and wellness advocate is touching down in New Zealand to mark the release of his latest documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2 and share his story of a battle familiar to many – trying to stay healthy in an unhealthy world.

"It can be easy to slip back into old habits, especially in a world in which we’re bombarded with messages enticing and even encouraging us to make less healthy choices. It’s been three years since I was in New Zealand and I can’t wait to reconnect with Kiwis that have transformed their lives and encourage those struggling to make changes towards a healthier lifestyle,” says Joe Cross.

Joe’s first documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead (2010), captivated more than 20 million viewers worldwide with the story of the juicing journey that changed his life. During the course of filming, Joe shed 45 kilograms in 60 days by exclusive consumption of juiced fruit and vegetables, igniting a movement that has seen almost 2 million people join his ‘Reboot’ community.

In Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2, the former financial investor revisits the USA to re-connect with people he met during the making of his first film – many of whom were compelled to make dramatic lifestyle changes after meeting him.

The sequel is packed with interviews with experts who identify the key components of wellbeing and tools for achieving it. It also explores the role community support – whether from family, friends or online – plays in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“There’s no shortage of people out there trying to transform their lives to something healthier, but as anyone who has tried knows, sustaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle is a real challenge. The most significant thing I’ve learnt in the process of making this film is that the more connected you are, the more you’re part of a community, whether it be physical or online, the more successful you will be,” says Joe.

“Adding a plant-based juice or smoothie to your diet on a regular basis is a simple of way of increasing your intake of vital nutrients – an easy first step on your journey to a healthier life.”

The award-winning filmmaker will host a free public event in Auckland on 9 April to offer advice on maintaining a balanced lifestyle. The tour coincides with the release of Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead 2, which airs on TV One at 2.10pm on 11 April.

Joe Cross visits New Zealand in conjunction with Breville, the home appliance company behind the Juice Fountain Max, his juicer of choice.
