Time to celebrate Microvolunteering Day
New Zealand celebrates Microvolunteering Day on April 15th, 2015.
Through an internet-connected device, or offline in small increments of time, microvolunteering is usually done to benefit a nonprofit organisation.
“Microvolunteering is all about donating a small amount of time to make a collective difference, says Volunteering NZ Chief Executive, Scott Miller.
Microvolunteering is a movement gathering momentum as it enables technology embedded volunteering that focuses on short activities that can be done from anywhere and at anytime that may suit.
"Volunteering is commonly associated with dedicating a large amount of time, something that most people can not commit to, particularly the younger generation who are changing the dynamic of the membership and volunteer experience”, says Miller
Microvolunteering highlights that this is not the case in 2015.
There are many opportunities for microvolunteering such as spreading awareness by tweeting pre-worded messages about a worthy cause, joining ‘Citizen-Science’, a website where people volunteer to share photos or observations that then contribute to scientific research or simply using #microday.
“Next time you have some spare time why not consider microvolunteering, even a brief amount of time and effort can make a difference to projects and purposes to benefit a nonprofit organisation,” says Miller
