A new approach to promoting NZ music
A new online initiative to get more people discovering and enjoying NZ music aims to increase the number of streams of tracks by NZ artists.
The site AllTracks.co.nz is a new portal to curated playlists of NZ music in seven genres, that listeners can enjoy through Youtube, Spotify or Soundcloud. The curators, all passionate about the genre they’ve been chosen for, are hand-picking the music selections so listeners can just plug in and tune out.
AllTracks.co.nz categorises NZ music into the genres Folk & Country, Dance & Electronic, Alt & Indie, Pop, Reggae & Roots, Hip Hop & RnB and Rock & Metal.
The music portal is funded by NZ On Air, as part of its push to ensure NZ music can be discovered on all the main online music platforms.
“Today we take our music with us everywhere in our pockets. And we all have different tastes. Our genre playlists mean you can discover and enjoy great NZ music without the need to create your own playlist. This is about making it easy to find the kind of NZ music you like,” says NZ On Air Music Manager Brendan Smyth.
The curators will change from time to time, but those who are kicking off the site with their playlists are:

Barnaby Weir says he’s on board because the playlist idea can take listeners on a musical journey and he encourages people to try out AllTracks.
“It can be really hard to find the music you like, but there is so much amazing musical talent out there to be enjoyed and discovered. I would encourage people to explore these playlists with an open mind, and they are bound to find something new they like or even a new favourite band,” he continues.
