Game of the Round

After an opening round loss to Southern Cross on the road, Aorere produced a dominant display to beat Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate 34-0.

A first-half double to no.7 Tamore Nati and a try to Maka Fainga'a set Aorere up with a 18-0 lead at the half.

It was a victory built off defence, as Aorere repeatedly pinned their opponents deep in their own territory, often frustrating them into fundamental errors.

Fullback Giovanni Silbery stood out for the southerners, gaining plenty of early yardage off kick returns and sweeping into the backline for a bunch of assists.

After finishing third at the national tournament last year Aorere now look a good chance of advancing from Pool C, with Southern Cross their biggest threat.

Next Wednesday Aorere take on Otahuhu, while Sir Edmund Hillary face Southern Cross.

Aorere College 34 (Jacob Tamua, Maka Fainga'a, Tyrone Nathan, Tamore Nati x2, Lennox Patuku tries; Tyrone Nathan x5 goals.) BEAT Sir Edmund Collegiate 0.

Wrap of the Rest

St Paul's College narrowly avoided becoming the victim of a major SAS College Rugby League upset in round two, edging past a determined Manurewa side 24-22.

Centre Samuel Filmoeatu was the standout for the central Aucklanders, taking Man of the Match honours after a powerhouse showing out wide.
