Bucket Challenge Set Down for Futsal Exponents

Bucket Challenge Set Down for Futsal Exponents

Will they get the ball into the bucket without using their feet?

A group of futsal exponents will try to complete the Futsal Focus Bucket Challenge in Hamilton on Sunday afternoon, as the city gears up for its involvement in the FIFA U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015.

Futsal is a fast-paced form of small-sided football played on an artificial court. As part of the FIFA U-20 World Cup, a futsal court has been set up in Hamilton’s Garden Place.

The Futsal Focus Bucket Challenge requires a team of futsal players to line up in two groups, and use only their heads to get a ball into a bucket. The Sunday afternoon challenge will be undertaken by a group of senior men’s futsal players, and coincide with a tournament on the court involving six teams and 18 matches.

Hamilton Futsal Court Manager Brayden Lissington – also a member of the national futsal team the Futsal Whites – says the Futsal Focus Bucket Challenge will test the mettle of the players.

“This will not be easy for the players involved – they’ll need to concentrate extremely hard and use just the right amount of technique and pressure to keep the ball moving, and eventually land it in the bucket.”

Mr Lissington says there are number of Futsal Focus Challenge videos on YouTube, which demonstrate its difficulty. The challenge has grown in popularity around the futsal and football world, with a number of teams trying it.

“It will be interesting to see how the local guys go,” Mr Lissington says.
