Cats and Dogs Set to be Popular

Cats and Dogs Set to be Popular

Dunedin (Tuesday, 26 May 2015) – Toitū Otago Settlers Museum opens its new temporary exhibition, Cats 'n Dogs: An Illustrated History, on Friday.

Curator Peter Read says, “New Zealand has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world. Cat videos are among the most viewed clips on YouTube. In this wonderfully illustrated exhibition we explore the many facets of our long-standing relationship with cats and dogs.”

Visitor Experience Manager Kirsty Glengarry says, "The exhibition space will be divided in half and visitors can vote if they have a preference for either species. Highlights of the exhibition include images people have sent in of their own pets, footage of Gareth Morgan discussing cats, a kahu kuri (dog cloak) on loan from Otago Museum and of course our own archival photographs featuring cats and dogs."

The exhibition will also offer some interesting public programmes in the July school holidays and plenty of talks through the exhibition season.

Cats 'n Dogs runs from 29 May until 6 September. There is a media preview on Thursday, 28 May at 11am.
