To coincide with the new exhibition Whole House Reuse opening 5 June, a programme of workshops and events produced by Rekindle will occur over June, July and August at Canterbury Museum, culminating in an auction of over 200 objects at the Isaac Theatre Royal on 24thAugust. Proceeds benefit Kilmarnock Enterprises.

Exhibition Tour 11.00 – 11.45am Saturday 20 June, 25 July and 22 August, Special Exhibition Hall, Canterbury Museum. Director of Whole House Reuse Juliet Arnott will tell the story of this ambitious and inspiring project.

Whole House Music - A Performance 2.00 – 3.00pm Sunday 21 June. Special Exhibition Hall, Canterbury Museum.

Fantastic musical instruments made from parts of 19 Admirals Way will bring the house alive! From the precious taonga puoro that Brian Flintoff carved from the rimu framing, to an extraordinary double bass that Tim McGurk made from timber, a bathroom sink and metal pipes, come, watch and listen as the first ever Whole House Music is made.

Children’s Puppet Workshop at Free Theatre 10.00am – 1.00pm Saturday 18th July. The Gym at the Arts Centre of Christchurch Worcester Boulevard.

Create puppets out of the leftover salvaged materials from the red-zoned Christchurch home at the centre of the Whole House Reuse project. Explore the techniques of animation and puppetry and your puppet may have the opportunity to feature in the Free Theatre Puppet Demonstration on Sunday 2nd August. Spaces limited. Please email education@freetheatre.org.nz Cost: $8 per child. Materials, tools and refreshments provided. Suitable for ages 7-12 years, approx. Accompanying caregiver required.

Cocoon Talk 11.00am – 12.00pm Sunday 19th July. The Bird Hall, Canterbury Museum.

The two minds behind the Cocoon project will explain the journey taken to create this innovative piece of architecture. Nic Moon and Lyn Russell joined forces to create this prototype for a ten square metre building made almost entirely from salvaged materials. Their intention was to celebrate the vibrant human and environmental stories held in the tissue memory of these used materials.

Free Theatre Puppet Demonstration 2.00 – 2.45pm Sunday 2 August. Special Exhibition Hall, Canterbury Museum.

A puppet demonstration that literally brings 19 Admirals Way back to life! Bizarre and captivating characters are ready to make you laugh, squeal and tug at your heart strings. This performance marks the first official debut of the Whole House Reuse Puppet Theatre - made inventively from the shower box, a bedroom door, some weatherboards and a cupboard front.

Labyrinth Building at 19 Admirals Way. Dates to be confirmed. Visit www.wholehousereuse.co.nz The bricks from the chimney at 19 Admirals Way will return to the site to create a labyrinth - a ground-level, circular maze-like path to walk for contemplation, stillness and play.
