Global Taste of Korea NZ Contest

The Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Auckland is pleased to announce that 2015 Global Taste of Korea New Zealand Contest, Korean food cooking contest, will be held in Auckland on Saturday, 18 July 2015.

The contest is hosted by the Korean Consulate in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Jeollabuk-do Provincial Government and Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), Korea's leading national broadcaster. The purpose of the contest is to spread Korean food and culture in New Zealand by encouraging New Zealand nationals to share their culinary ideas and skills in re-interpreting Korean dishes for globalising Korean food.

The winner of the NZ Contest will be offered an all-expense-paid trip to Korea to participate in the Korean Cuisine Camp and the final rounds of the contest in Korea representing New Zealand which will run for ten days during August this year. The grand final winner of the contest will receive a US$10,000 cash prize and second place winner will receive US$ 3,000. All regional finalists will be appointed as an honorary ambassador of Korean food and their recipes will be published in a special edition Korean cookbook for the contest.

Entries for the competition are open to any New Zealand citizens who have an interest and love about Korean food regardless of whether they are professional chefs or amateur foodies. Entries will be closed on 10 July and to enter, please visit the Consulate’s website (nzl-auckland.mofa.go.kr).

In line with this exciting contest, there will be aKimchi Making and Bibimbap Tasting event on the same day as well. Kimchi is a Korean traditional fermented and spicy pickled vegetable. This indispensible dish to Korean meal is now loved by many non-Koreans thanks to its loads of health benefits and great taste.

The events are expected to provide people in New Zealand with a great opportunity to discover the excellence of Korea food and help foster cultural exchanges and engagements between Korea and New Zealand.
