Congratulations to the winners of the Asthma Foundation's Dance 4 Asthma competition 2015 :

Primary School – Woodstock School, Hamilton

Intermediate School – Havelock North Intermediate

Secondary School – Avondale College

Dance 4 Asthma is a national competition to raise the profile of asthma to all children, and the community, in a fun and positive way. Schools had to choreograph a dance to One of a kind by Cameron Rota.

We had whole schools enter with all 31 pupils and staff from Greendale School in Canterbury, our first brand new school - Shotover Primary with many gorgeous 5 year olds grooving, our first policeman, our first dog and our first snow in a video," said Cindy Borrie, coordinator of Dance 4 Asthma.

Dance judges Anna Robinson from Pump Dance, Michael Gudgeon from Java Dance and Kyra Aoake from the Royal Family had the unenviable job of picking a winner. Michael said “It was great to see such fun, creative, complex and informative videos. I can tell many hours have gone into making these videos and it really shows! It was fabulous to see so many students getting up, dancing and giving it a go. That’s what it’s all about! Being active, having fun, getting to be creative and dancing for asthma.“

"The creativity, energy and enthusiasm put into Dance 4 Asthma by all the schools involved is truly impressive," said Teresa Demetriou, acting chief executive at the Asthma Foundation. "We want all our kids to be confident, healthy and participating fully at school - with 1 in 7 kids in New Zealand taking medication for asthma and asthma responsible for 550,000 lost school days every year, it is important to raise the profile of asthma to all our young people."

Thirty nine schools entered the competition - all the videos can be seen on our website.
