Rally NZ Back on the Coromandel for a Second Year.

Rally New Zealand is back on The Coromandel for the second year in a row with theMahindra Goldrush Rally of Coromandel.

This is the fifth round of the NZ Rally Champs and will take place on Saturday 22 Augustwith up to 60 cars vying for pole position.

"We're so pleased to host Rally NZ for another year," says Thames-Coromandel District Council Mayor Glenn Leach. "The feedback we have received from organisers was that the drivers loved the route and the hospitality shown by The Coromandel community."

On Friday 21 August, the Whitianga Events Trust and the Mercury Bay Business Association have organised for Blacksmith Lane in Whitianga to be closed between 3pm - 6pm for a ceremonial start. There'll be autograph signing sessions, some fun bike races and activities and races cars and crews will be on display and around to meet the public.

"Last year this event was televised on TV3's Sunday Motorsport programme, which is one of the top rating programmes with a huge viewing audience," says Mayor Leach. "The programmed included several minutes of footage showcasing the Coromandel, which is a huge tourism boost for our District," says the Mayor.

"We also saw with the Rally here for the first time last year, an economic boost to our local businesses."
