Big screen to show the big final in Shed 6 on the waterfront
Wellingtonians – and our
friends from the south - who missed out on tickets to watch
the Hurricanes take on the Highlanders in this weekend’s
Super Rugby final at Westpac Stadium will be able watch it
on a big screen in Shed 6 on Queens Wharf this Saturday
night.
Wellington Deputy Mayor Justin Lester says he is delighted that Wellingtonians are getting behind the Hurricanes.
“Wellington City Council is proud to support the Hurricanes and, with a sold-out game, it’s great to be able to offer this free screening to make sure as many Wellingtonians as possible are able to enjoy the excitement of a home final.”
“Having grown up in Southland, I’m also proud to say that Highlanders fans will be welcome to join us for this huge occasion.”
“Kick-off is at 7.35pm - and the doors will open at 6.30pm - bring the family down early as space is limited.
“There won’t be any alcohol on sale and it’ll be a family atmosphere - we urge those who want to party while watching the big game to head to one of the many great bars in the city,” Councillor Lester says.
“Given the unprecedented demand from fans to engage and show their support around this final, it's really great to be able to offer another opportunity, along with Wellington City Council, for even more fans to experience and be part of what is going to be a fantastic occasion” says James Te Puni, Hurricanes Chief Executive.
Entry to Shed 6 is from the northern end – under the Queens Wharf sails.
