Mangere College and Southern Cross Campus win first SAS CRL

Mangere College and Southern Cross Campus win first SAS CRL finals of 2015

U/85kg Grand Final - Mangere College 32 Southern Cross Campus 22

Mangere College made it back-to-back SAS College Rugby League U/85kg titles, after an extra time 32-22 victory over Southern Cross Campus on Wednesday.

After trailing 16-4 at the break Southern Cross looked outsiders to make a comeback in the second period.

But tries in quick succession to centre Siave Togolu, Nofo Amituani and Chas Ngahia wrestled the margin back to 22-20.

That left Togolu to boot the extras to take the game into extra time, which he did with a clutch conversion.

But in the end Mangere managed to regain their composure in added time, scoring through Ingia Limoni - his second of the day - and then interchange player Daley Cassin, to run out 32-22 winners.

Mangere College 32 (Aniseko Aniseko, Ingia Limoni x2, Sam Nati, Daley Cassin, Pua Simani tries; Limoni x4 goals. BEAT Southern Cross Campus 22 (Siave Togolu, Chas Ngahia, Nofo Amituani, Darren Fakatiavia tries; Togolu x2, Samiuela Lauhingoa x1 goals.) HT: 16-4. At Cornwall Park.

But in the second period it was one-way traffic, as Southern Cross built on their lead with doubles to winger Stewart Whitehead and centre Nitoia Kairau.

Five minutes from time interchange forward Tyrone Hamilton secured himself a hat-trick, as Southern Cross punished their opponents with a free-flowing brand on attack and some stinging defence.

Southern Cross finishing convincing 60-22 winners to take out their first piece of rugby league silverware for 2015.

Wrap of the Rest

St Paul's College are back in familiar territory, sitting atop the Premier Championship table after victory over the previously unbeaten Mt Albert Grammar 28-6.

With the Otahuhu and Southern Cross game being postponed, that left Kelston's 26-18 win over Manurewa as the only other game in the Championship division.

Down in the Plate Avondale were too good for Western Springs, blowing them away in the second half to win 40-26.

Papatoetoe had a 30-0 shutout of Sir Edmund Hillary and Aorere beat Westlake 20-7 to go top of the table.

The Bowl competition opened with a thrilling 18-all draw between James Cook and Papakura, before Tamaki beat Lynfield 36-14 and Massey got up over Manurewa B 18-8.

All SAS College Rugby League competitions now take a break for school holidays, with games resuming on July 22.
