Have you got the oldest undies?
Thunderpants is on an international quest to find the oldest pair of their undies. The ‘oldest undie quest’ is part of their 20 year birthday festivities and the much-loved brand of New Zealand made clothing is confident there are undies out there that have stood the test of time and might even be 20 years old, like them.
“We really don’t know where we’ll find them, our undies are worn by a varied and loyal group of people who appreciate their unique qualities. But when we find the oldest pair, the owner will be handsomely rewarded with a generous supply of underpants that will hopefully last the winner another 20 years,” says Josie Bidwill, Thunderpants Director.
Thunderpants will be giving the owner of the oldest pair the equivalent number of undies in years, potentially 20 pairs of their Thunderpants. The prize will be shared if there’s more than one with the oldest pants.
Thunderpants was started in 1995 by Josie, a design student, and Victoria McKenzie who were frustrated by irritating, uncomfortable undies and set about creating the ultimate undie - one that doesn’t cut into you, made from soft, incredibly comfortable cotton fabric and, most importantly, doesn’t go up your bum!
The business has grown over time from just a couple of people producing undies to sell at the Nelson market to a company with a staff of twelve, producing a range of clothing and swimwear as well as undies for all the family. They are extremely proud to be New Zealand made and of their sustainable business practice and support of their local community with manufacturing jobs.
“So if you think you have our oldest pair of undies, please email a picture that shows the print to info@thunderpants.co.nz along with any known age details by the 17th of July,” says Josie. If suitable for the public’s gaze, a picture of the print will also feature for the last weeks in ‘A Month of Thunder’ exhibition at the home of Thunderpants, Thrive Clothing, in Martinborough.
The Month of Thunder is an exhibition of the history of Thunderpants and runs throughout July.
