GODZone Entries A Sell Out Again

GODZone Entries A Sell Out Again

The world’s largest expedition race has sold out its 2016 field in record time.

New Zealand’s GODZone adventure race received a record number of entries within minutes of opening at 9am yesterday. Race Director Warren Bates says it’s another outstanding achievement for the event that will create a phenomenal platform for the fifth Chapter of GODZone.

“Obviously we are delighted to sell out once again. To do it in record time is doubly pleasing. There is no doubt that the wider adventure racing community have responded with huge enthusiasm to the inspirational location of Tasman and the unique challenge that GODZone provides.

Entries flooded in from all over the world yesterday. We’ve got a great mix of teams and are particularly delighted to announce that both courses are full, with a fantastic response to the inaugural GZ Pursuit event. We are breaking new ground for the sport with our dual event concept and setting up new pathways for racers which is a really positive outcome for adventure racing.”

GODZone will take place in Tasman District, located at the top of the South Island in New Zealand, from the 2nd – 9th April, 2016 with teams expected to spend up to two weeks in the area pre and post event. Bates says the unique mix of New Zealand’s terrain and GODZone’s iconic status is proving to be an unbeatable formula in attracting international teams.

“Despite New Zealand being a long way from many countries and with incredibly strong domestic demand from local Kiwi teams, we are delighted to have 25% of our teams representing overseas nations. We’ve had great buy in from Australia this year and will be welcoming teams from as far afield as the UK, USA, Canada, Europe and Scandinavia. They are in for an amazing journey, it’s an incredibly beautiful part of the world.“

With the GODZone field now full, Bates says it's a matter of creating the ultimate adventure experience for teams, whilst generating as much positive exposure as possible for Tasman District and adventure racing as a whole.

“We’re aiming to do some great things for Tasman and for adventure racing in general. 2016 is going to be a record breaking year for GODZone and we can’t wait for the excitement to begin.”
