Architectural Installations to Light up Smales Farm

Atmospheric Architectural Installations to Light up Smales Farm This July

A series of incredible, original light installations will bring a glow to Auckland’s North Shore this winter, with Stellar: Bright Ideas at Smales Farm. An after-dark outing the whole family will enjoy, the natural world becomes an adventure with a series of atmospheric architectural works from local studios Angus Muir Design and AJ Design Co.

With backgrounds not only in the theoretical world of design but also practical fabrication and application, Angus Muir and Alexandra Heaney's unique approach to developing projects acknowledges the history of sites while injecting new life and energy into a space.

Works to be displayed include Field, a mesmerising artwork that brings the surreal into a natural environment; reflecting the grass and landscape, it blends perfectly into it's grassy environs. Wander further to discover Digital Wattle, a kinetic and light based installation taking the form of a Wattle tree that has travelled to international light festivals in China, Singapore and Sydney. It's carbon fibre stems sway in the wind as its berry like orbs illuminate from above. Shroud offers a moment of contemplation as you are invited to recline on a bean bag under a stunning, drapery of roped light dripping with sparkles and a reactive immersive soundtrack.

Two exciting new site-specific works will be unveiled at Stellar, one amongst a grid of small orchard trees and the other centred around a water feature highlighting it's mirrored reflection.
