Heritage CEO sleeps rough to reap funds for homeless

Graham Yan, the CEO of Heritage Hotels in New Zealand joined The Lifewise Big Sleepout fundraiser last night. He has raised $8,887 to dateand is currently third amongst the top 10 fund raisers. He joined 150 influential Aucklanders to raise awareness to tackle the growing issue of homelessness in Auckland and Rotorua. He had a no frills night camped out in the AUT Quad where his bed was a cardboard mat and a sleeping bag.

“It was really cold last night and I had little sleep, so I had plenty of time to think about the reality of nights like this for our city’s homeless. It was a small sacrifice though to raise money for this great cause. I am really grateful to all who have donated and gave their support,” says Graham Yan.

There are more than 100 people sleeping rough in Auckland’s city centre alone, and thousands of vulnerable people living in unsafe or unsuitable accommodation. Every dollar raised from the Lifewise Big Sleepout goes straight towards turning lives around for vulnerable Kiwis living with homelessness. Now in its 6th year, the Lifewise Big Sleepout aimed to raise $250,000 for its services but has already surpassed that goal. Donations continue to pour in.
