Smile for the birdie with Halo

It’s time again for a bit of fine-feathered photography.

The biennial Hamilton Halo photo competition is on again this year, with people invited to submit their best snap of a tui, kereru or bellbird.

“We encourage people to give us their best shot to help raise awareness about protecting our precious native birds,” says Waikato Regional Council’s Halo project manager Therese Balvert.
To qualify for the competition, images must be snapped this year, within a 20 kilometre radius of Hamilton. Other contest terms and conditions are available atwww.waikatoregion.govt.nz/hamiltonhalo

The best overall image will win a nature book up to the value of $150, a one year family pass to Hamilton Zoo valued at $240 and the winning photo printed on canvas.

The people’s choice award winner will win a book of images by award winning wildlife and nature photographer Trevor Penfold, as well as a New Zealand birds t-shirt.

Images of up to 8 megabytes in size should be sent to halo@waikatoregion.govt.nz by Monday 17 August.

The Halo project involves animal pest control at selected bird breeding sites around Hamilton so as to increase the chances of nesting success.
