Final Days to Enter Taupo District’s Community Heroes

Final Days to Enter Taupo District’s Community Heroes in Local Awards

Locals have just a few more days to ensure their favourite voluntary groups are part of the Taupō District’s biggest celebration of volunteers.

Entries for the Trustpower Taupō District Community Awards close at 5pm on Friday 17 July, and there is more than $5,000 in total up for grabs.

In partnership with the Taupō District Council and supported by The Hits Taupō, the Trustpower Community Awards recognise and reward voluntary groups and organisations for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community.

The Supreme Winner of the Trustpower Taupō District Community Awards will represent the Taupō District at the 2015 Trustpower National Community Awards. Last year’s Supreme Winner for the Community Awards was the Tauhara Community Support Initiative, an incredible group of volunteers turning their community around and bringing life and spirit back to their area.

The Trustpower Community Awards programme has been part of the Taupō District since 2000. Each year, usually 50 – 60 groups are entered for the Trustpower Taupō District Community Awards. Last year 57 entries were received.

Trustpower Community Relations Representative Kathlene Cook says there are still plenty of community groups providing services, organising activities, supporting those who need it and running events in the community who deserve to be entered into the Trustpower Taupō District Community Awards for their contributions to the community.

“Volunteers dedicate thousands of hours to the community. We must remember that volunteers fundraise, they build and preserve things and they host events. They coordinate health support groups and they teach new skills and sports and then there are others who will even save your life and property if they need to.

These Awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise and honour some of the Taupō District’s hardworking and generous volunteers and it means we get the chance to share with the community all the wonderful things that this district’s volunteers are doing for the benefit of many.

Now it’s your chance to say ‘thanks’ to these volunteers who work hard for your community by entering them in the Trustpower Community Awards. There’s one week left to enter groups; it only takes a few minutes to enter a voluntary group and it will make a real difference to the volunteers you are recognising,” says Kathlene.

Anyone can enter a group or organisation for the Trustpower Taupō District Community Awards – voluntary groups and organisations can even enter themselves. But act now because entries close on Friday 17 July.

Entry forms are available from Council offices or service centres. Entry forms can also be received by calling Kathlene at Trustpower on 0800 87 11 11 or online on our Trustpower Community Facebook page or at at www.Trustpower.co.nz/communityawards

The Awards will be presented at a function on Monday 7 September.
