Dream Chaser Foundation receives funds

Dream Chaser Foundation receives funds from
award winning student volunteer

The Dream Chaser Foundation in Whakatāne has received a $250 donation from the winner of the 2015 Trustpower Whakatāne District Youth Community Award.

Anna Glibbery from Whakatāne High School was named as winner of the Award, which recognises secondary school students’ service to the school and the community. The Award is jointly run by Trustpower and the Whakatāne District Council and is part of the Trustpower Whakatāne District Community Awards which were presented last night, Monday 3 August.

For winning the Award, Anna received a framed certificate and $500, with an additional $250 being donated to Dream Chaser Foundation.

Ryan Topperwein from the Dream Chaser Foundation says Anna’s donation will be put towards helping children and their families through cancer.

“Anna’s donation means a lot and we really appreciate her help. It is wonderful to have the community support so we can be there for others who are going through what we are going though”, says Ryan.

Anna recently held a mufti-day collection at Whakatāne High School for the Dream Chaser Foundation as well and she is a big supporter of the group.

Trustpower Community Relations Representative Kathlene Cook says the Trustpower Youth Community Spirit Award is a wonderful opportunity to publicly acknowledge the work young people do to enrich their community.

“Often young people receive a lot of negative attention and we forget the tremendous input that they provide to the fabric of our community. Anna is a great example of a student doing just that,” says Kathlene.
