Live Live Cinema: Little Shop of Horrors

Live Live Cinema: Little Shop of Horrors

Following multiple tours since 2011 of Live Live Cinema: Carnival of Souls and Dementia 13, Jumpboard Productions presents the next film ripe for the Live Live Cinema treatment: Roger Corman’s Little Shop of Horrors, now touring to Taranaki, Blenheim, Christchurch and Tauranga in August and September.

The original 1960 film is screened silently on stage while a live soundtrack is created by four of New Zealand’s most prominent performers below and in front of the screen. Re-voicing the multiple on-screen characters in perfect lip sync, the musicians will play a new original musical score by Live Live creator Leon Radojkovic, under the under the direction of Oliver Driver, as well as creating live Foley sound effects designed by esteemed sound and Foley artist Gareth Van Niekerk.

Little Shop of Horrors will contain all the elements of Live Live’s earlier works, but will significantly up the danger and excitement of the live performance by merging the band, Foley and actors into one small ensemble that work together at breakneck pace to create the live soundtrack. If you’re wondering who could possibly be talented (and brave) enough to tackle this fast-paced, thrill-seeking live cinema experience, look no further than Laughton Kora, Barnie Duncan, Bryan Coll and Hayley Sproull. Also swapping in for part of the tour will be the talented Thomas Knowles.

Once again under the musical nous of creator Leon Radojkovic (Carnival of Souls andDementia 13, Angels in America, The Only Child, Hui, Brel: The Words and Music of Jacques Brel, Jesus Christ Superstar),the direction of esteemed director Oliver Driver(The Blue Room, The Vagina Monologues, Play 2, The Goat, Rabbit, Assassins, Backstory, Glide Time, Tape, Bare, Red, Belleville, Jesus Christ Superstar) and audio designer Gareth Van Niekerk, Little Shop of Horrors will be an engaging feat of brilliant musical and cinematic theatrics. Our Audrey, Seymour, Mushnik and Dentist (along with all the other characters) will be leaping from piano to guitar, to bass to door bell, to that thing that makes the sound of footsteps.

“It’s a showcase of skill, cleverness, and funny voices, a zany and accomplished tribute to a very schlocky film” - Theatre Scenes

“Shamelessly silly, this is essential viewing for anyone who likes their entertainment with its tongue pressed firmly against its cheek.” - Lumiere
