The great New Zealand map proves ever popular

The great New Zealand map proves ever popular

In a world of digital connectivity, where there is a mobile app for everything, a humble printed map of New Zealand is proving a popular resource for travellers.

The second edition of the ‘Great advice, Great walks, Great rides’ map has just been printed, with the first edition snapped up in a few short months.

The map is a collaboration between i-SITE New Zealand – the country’s official visitor information network – the Department of Conservation (DOC) and the New Zealand Cycle Trail (NZCT).

It gives visitors the ability to plan their holiday route with the confidence that expert local knowledge is always available from visitor centres along the way. It highlights the locations of 96 i-SITE and DOC visitor centres, our national parks DOC’s nine Great Walks, and the NZCT’s 22 Great Rides.

i-SITE New Zealand Executive Manager Paul Yeo says the map is full of essential visitor information, including which visitor centres provide free WiFi.

Our objective is to enhance the experience of all visitors, both domestic and international.

The map is designed to allow visitor centre staff to plan itineraries for visitors, provide them with key information for their trip and help them locate where to go next.

“Available in English and Chinese, both in print and online, the map also features information about Qualmark, New Zealand tourism’s official mark of quality, making it easy for visitors to choose quality activities, transport and places to stay,” says Mr Yeo.

NZCT’s Manager Evan Freshwater says sharing the map with i-SITE and DOC has been an effective way to showcase New Zealand’s fantastic cycling experience.

“This map gives our visitors a real one-stop resource for planning their journey around Aotearoa,” says Mr Freshwater.

DOC’s Commercial Channel Manager Ross Shearer says the organisation is pleased to be part of such an effective initiative.

“Not only have we managed to meet the customer’s needs, we have reduced costs and increased distribution. We see this as a positive step forward and are actively looking for similar opportunities to work with these partners,” says Mr Shearer. i-SITE is New Zealand’s official visitor information network delivering expert local knowledge at over 80 locations. More than 7 million people visit i-SITEs every year for information, itinerary planning and bookings.

‘Great advice, Great walks, Great rides’ encourages visitors to stay safe and responsible by providing information about personal safety, safe driving, freedom camping and simple rules for outdoor, boating and water adventures in New Zealand.

Along with links to partner websites, links to New Zealand’s 30 Regional Tourism Organisations are also featured to enable visitors to find further information about a region they plan to visit.

Visitors can pick up a free map from any i-SITE or DOC visitor information centre, or trade quantities can be supplied via Stocklink.
