Poetry Day For Whangarei

PRESS RELEASE: Poetry Day For Whangarei

Press release date: 19/8/2015

AUTHOR: Piet Nieuwland and Michael Botur – Whangarei Poets

Whangarei poets will mark National Poetry Day at Mokaba Café in the Town Basin on Friday 28 August.

Poets will share their love of language in an ‘open mic’ live performance beginning 5.30pm while over 80 simultaneous performances take place around the country.

With dozens of readers at each event, over 1000 poets will be performing nationwide, with many thousands in the audiences.

Whangarei poets are asking all language-lovers to join the celebration and queue for their open mic spot.

A feature of the night will be the launch of Fast Fibres Poetry #2, a new anthology of Northland Poetry. Featured poets include Victoria del la Varis-Woodcock, Maureen Sudlow, Piet Nieuwland, Michael Botur, Arthur Fairley and Martin Porter.

Whangarei convenor Piet Nieuwland encourages anyone with an interest in poetry to attend and listen or bring their own work to read.

Poets are welcome to register to read in advance, by emailing fastfibres@live.com .

NZ Book Awards Trust is the sponsor of the event.
