Dates Announced for iD Dunedin Fashion Week 2016

iD Dunedin Fashion Week will celebrate its 17th year in Dunedin, New Zealand, from March 12-20 2016, with an exciting week of exhibitions, premier catwalk shows featuring international guests and iconic Kiwi designers, as well as the much anticipated 12th annual iD International Emerging Designer Awards.

The international fashion event this year celebrated its 16th anniversary with a highly acclaimed show featuring Los Angeles-based vintage fashion authority and owner of world-renowned vintage emporium The Way We Wore, Doris Raymond, alongside much-loved Dunedin, New Zealand and Australian fashion designers. Next year’s event will deliver two iD Dunedin Fashion Shows on 18-19 March 2016 on one of the world’s longest catwalks at Dunedin’s historic Railway Station.

On Thursday 17 March 2016, the 12th annual iD International Emerging Designer Awards will be held at the Dunedin Town Hall in partnership with the Otago Polytechnic, providing an international platform for rising national and global talent. The only one of its kind in New Zealand, the International Emerging Designer Awards attracts entries from some of the world’s most prominent fashion schools.

iD Dunedin Fashion Week committee chair Susie Staley says this year’s dates were chosen to fit with other international fashion weeks, local events, and the availability of Dunedin venues.

“It’s essential that we fit into the international fashion calendar to secure our guest designers. We also endeavour to work around the local events calendar and to try and avoid clashes with other significant local events.”

“We look forward to continuing the success of the past 16 years and presenting a week of world class fashion shows and related events.”

Tickets will be available in early December 2015, allowing attendees plenty of time to book in advance and secure flights and accommodation.

Staley says that by exceptional financial management this year iD now has a firm base to enable it to maintain a high quality event and explore new developments to keep the event fresh. She said developing new sponsorships was an ongoing priority but is pleased that iD continues to enjoy the support of long term major sponsors such as Dunedin’s Golden Centre Mall, Aart on St Andrew, Mediaworks, Hotel St Clair and Otago Polytechnic.
