Crowne Plaza Queenstown paints the town rainbow

As thousands of visitors celebrate the arrival of Gay Ski Week, Crowne Plaza Queenstown has been painting the town ‘rainbow’.

The lakeside property overlooking the crystal clear waters of stunning Lake Wakatipu lit up its building and nearby Queenstown Bay with a colourful display of rainbow lights.

On request from its Gay Ski Week client LeisureCom Group and with the help of Queenstown-based Shipleys Audiovisual, the team at Crowne Plaza was “thrilled” to transform the lakefront into a bright, colourful and fabulous spectacle for locals and visitors to enjoy.

The four-night display was dramatically mirrored on the lake surface and proved a drawcard for photographers.

Crowne Plaza is proud to be hosting Gay Ski Week visitors, especially as the property was last year voted Best Ski Hotel at the World Ski Awards and has been recognised as a favourite winter getaway for many years.

Crowne Plaza Queenstown General Manager Reinier Eulink believes the property’s “professional and high-quality service” is the reason visitors return year after year and its “infamous” après ski hospitality proves a winner with skiers and boarders alike.

“We’re hugely proud of our great location and unrivalled views, and we wanted to do something that’s great fun and very visual to showcase this and welcome the LGBT community,” he says.

“The town really comes to life during Gay Ski Week and we welcome the atmosphere that such a large-scale celebration brings to our property and the resort as a whole.”

“We’re already thinking up other ways to paint the town rainbow next year, so watch this space.”
