Arohanui Film Festival Launches Programme

On October 30th 2015, the tiny tourist town of Te Aroha will host the world premiere of NZ film PENNY BLACK along with some brand new short films at the Inaugural Arohanui Film Festival. The event will kick off a weekend of film premieres, celebrating New Zealand’s film-making community with an inspiring programme from all over the world.

The NZ Premiere of Kazakhstan Comedy BRIDE SABINA shows us “unforgettable and hilarious personalities of Kazakh show-business”, and the aptly titled AUSTRALIENS is a hilarious film about Aliens invading Australia.

SPILLING SALT is a documentary exploring the world’s potential Lithium crisis, and BAOBABS BETWEEN LAND AND SEA takes us along the fascinating coast of Madagascar to study rare Baobab trees. While WAR OF LIES explains how the war on Iraq was conceived by one man.

The weekend will conclude with the premiere of SWEET AND VICIOUS / LAS MALAS LENGUAS, a Colombian film that breaks the silence about abortion and homosexuality in one of Latin America's most conservative societies.

“We couldn’t believe how many great films were submitted this year, but we were really looking for exciting films that you can’t see anywhere else” says festival director Lyn Renwick, who was awarded a Queen’s Service Medal in 2009 for her service to theatre and youth in South Auckland.

The lineup will also include retrospective screenings of New Zealand Films THE INSATIABLE MOON and Z-NAIL GANG, which will both have the director in attendance to answer questions afterwards. Additional Q&A sessions with special guests are to be recorded by Will Fleming @PodcastNZ for iTunes.

The festival, which had films classified just for the event, will also pair up brand new short films before feature screenings. The short films come from a range of countries including India, France, Serbia, Iran and even Hamilton, New Zealand.

Everyone is welcome to attend the festival, though seating is limited so best to book early to avoid missing out. A full weekend pass to see all the films is only $55 incGST and booking fees, and individual session passes are also available arohanuifilmfestival.nz
