We're going to need a bigger cabinet

We're going to need a bigger cabinet

Those are the words that could easily be uttered in the household of Ngatea's Ben Broad after the young motocross racer collected yet another major trophy at the weekend.

Supported by KTM New Zealand and BikesportNZ.com, the 16-year-old KTM rider has spent a large part of the year stepping up to the podium at various events around New Zealand and that was recognised when he was named Waikato secondary schools' sportsman of the year at the annual function at Lake Karapiro on Sunday.

This now puts him in the frame to go on and also win the junior award at the upcoming Hauraki-Thames Valley Sportsperson of the Year Awards.

It has been a remarkable season of racing for the talented teenager.

He won the New Zealand Grand Prix title in two classes at the big annual Woodville Motocross in January, going on also that day to win the junior champion of champions feature race.

Broad then stepped up to race the senior nationals, finishing third overall in the 125cc class, before slipping seamlessly back into the junior ranks to contest the New Zealand Junior Motocross Championships near Te Kuiti in April.

He won the premier 14-16 years' 250cc four-stroke class title at the junior nationals, fending off a strong challenge over the two days from Cambridge rival Trent Collins.

Broad was a key member of the South Waikato Motorcycle Club team that won the annual Battle of the Clubs Motocross in Taupo in June and then he won two classes – both the junior and senior 125cc titles – at the two-round North Island Motocross Championships that wound up in Hawke's Bay in September.

Broad is supported by KTM New Zealand, Fox, Pirelli, M-Spec, Motorex, Ranthal, Scott, CFX Seats, Carter Coaching, BikesportNZ.com and Twin Air.
