Mondiale Aces named for first Georgie Pie Super Smash game

Tuesday, 10 November 2015

The Mondiale Aces have named an exciting side for their first game of the Georgie Pie Super Smash. The Rob Nicol led side features a host of experienced T20 campaigners as well as a dash of youth.

After finishing runners up last year the Auckland side are eager to impress this season and keen to get the their campaign underway in New Plymouth against the Central Stags. 18-year-old Glenn Phillips is included in the 12 for the match and could be in line to make his Georgie Pie Super Smash debut. Other features of the side include the late withdrawal of Mitchell McClenaghan who has been called up to join the BLACKCAPS test squad in Australia.

The side features some powerful hitters in the form of Colin Munro and Colin de Grandhomme. McClenaghan’s trip to Australia opens the door for fellow speedster Lockie Ferguson to make his impact early in the competition.

Mondiale Aces Coach Mark O’Donnell is excited by what he’s seen in preparation for the first game.

“We have had some highly competitive inter-squad matches leading up to this game. The guys have been really going for it and everyone wants to make an impact and be in the side every game.”

“Yarrow Stadium will be an interesting new challenge for the team. It has been good to watch the action there so far and we will be factoring what we have seen into our match plans.”

An XI will be selected from the following 12 players(shirt number in brackets)-
