Last goodbye to New Zealand’s oldest Strip Club

19 November 2015

New video captures the last goodbye to New Zealand’s oldest Strip Club.

A new video documents one of the last nights that the legendary Las Vegas Strip Club on Karangahape Road was open for business.

The video takes an observational look at the unique culture and following that the club developed over its 53 years of history. It draws attention to the increasing gentrification of Krd and the loss of culturally significant and historic venues.

This short documentary captures candid interviews with local musicians and fans about their memories of Las Vegas, music from some of the sets played, the original interior aesthetics, and parting words from Adrian Churn - the sound and lighting technician for 39 years.

Interviews and music include Bernie Griffen and The Thin Men, Dead Little Penny, New Gum Sarn and more.

The Las Vegas strip club opened at 339 Karangahape Road in 1962, and it stayed exactly the same way until it was bought out recently by developers.

Most Aucklanders are familiar with the looming ‘Vegas Girl’ painting on the building front, a once controversial image which became a distinct and treasured icon of Krd.

On the night fans packed out the venue and lined up the street for one of the last chances to see Las Vegas lit up in neon pink.

The video is now ready for released to the public, and can be viewed at the following link: https://vimeo.com/146162594
