More affordable than the Affordable Art Show – The Toi Two Hundy

Ever wanted to own an original artwork? Start your art collection now! Toi Pōneke Art Centre’s annual resident exhibition offers you the opportunity to purchase work by emerging and established artists for $200 and under. This year, 30 local artists have created an eclectic range of offerings for this one-off cash and carry show.

The Toi Two Hundy is the final exhibition of the year at Toi Pōneke. Organised by its resident artists it contains painting, photography, drawing, jewellery, mosaics and sculpture. There will be something for everybody, even those hard to buy for.

Exhibiting artists include, David Brown, whose recognisably bold, geometric style can be seen on the side of the re.SPACE building on Victoria Street. For the Toi Two Hundy, he will be showing a series of smaller works, ready to wrap. David has received national recognition and awards for his geometric paintings.

Dylan Mulder, Rachel Silver, and Gina Matchitt are among the new residents showing work at Toi Pōneke for the first time.

Dylan is an award-winning Industrial Designer using digital technology in interesting ways. He will be exhibiting 3D printed jewellery, props, products and skateboards.

Rachel builds detailed mosaics inspired by tropical travel. She describes her work as “Vivid texTILE, wall art made from up-cycled and recycled glass, ceramic, crockery, shells and stone”.

Gina Matchitt’s mixed media creations rework customary Maori pattern with contemporary materials. She is widely exhibited in New Zealand, Australia, The Netherlands, United States and Switzerland. Matchitt's work is featured in many major New Zealand collections such as Te Papa Tongarewa - The National Museum of New Zealand.

Toi Pōneke Arts Centre was established by Wellington City Council in 2005 to house and support emerging Wellington artists. It has 3000sq m of space over a total of eight floors in two adjacent buildings. More than 35 local artists have studios and a number of arts organisations have offices in the complex.

The Toi Two Hundy opens Tuesday 15 December at 5.30pm and runs daily until Tuesday 22 December, 6pm.

Opening hours are: weekdays 10am-8pm and weekends 10am-4pm.
