2015 Finn Gold class Regatta Takapuna's Last

2015 Finn Gold class Regatta Takapuna's Last

The current Finn class worlds look to be the last event to be hosted and held by the Takapuna Boating Club. Refusal by Takapuna Boating Club to meet a proposed creditor’s arrangement sees imminent receivership after this event. Rear Commodore Ray Welson’s statement “l think that l conveyed that l am not prepared to compromise” sealed the clubs fate.

Ms Keim the spokesperson for Wings & Waves, the company owed over $250,000 by the club states “I am glad that this matter will now be over. That others will not have to be put through what we have. We have had our health, livelihood and standing in the community threatened by the club”

She adds, I do feel for the members who may also be liable for some of the debt. We offered a number of settlements to the club but were forced by the Board into costly litigation and now recovery.

Even after the Judgement of Judge M E Sharp on 2nd July 2015, who found the Takapuna Boating Club failed in its primary duty of care as a landlord. The actions of the committee continue to add more debt to its members.

The judgement outlines the case, but simply Wings & Waves a Bayswater based small business was a tenant for 16 years in the Bayswater building owned by Takapuna Boating club. Through its negligence as landlord and subsequent actions the club was found guilty and was judged to have cost the small company over $250,000.

Ms Keim and Mr Muir the owners feel personally aggrieved that long standing members’ such as Ralph Roberts have remained mute and allowed the club to continue its destructive path to liquidation and winding up.

Both say this has come at both a huge economic and personal cost over 4 years of feeling bullied.

We believe as the courts do its time to bring this to an end.
