Round Win For Cooley

Round Win For Cooley

Wellington racing driver Brock Cooley has taken his first round win in the BNT NZ Touring Car Series at Round 3 at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park in North Waikato at the weekend. Cooley made a real statement, winning two of the three races over the course of the round, in what is fast becoming a season of milestones. The Wellington driver, whose race team is based in Lower Hutt, won his first race in the series at the opening round at Taupo a little over a month ago and now has three race wins and a round win to his name.

After taking pole position in the Speedy Signs Falcon on Saturday morning Cooley raced to a fine win in extremely wet conditions in Saturday's opening race of the weekend. Warm, dry conditions greeted competitors on Sunday and once again Cooley raced to another good win in Sunday morning's race before taking second behind defending champion and championship leader Kevin Williams of Manukau City in the third and final race. The three results gave Cooley the round win from Auckland's Brad Lathrope and Simon Fleming of Hamilton while it has also allowed Cooley to close to within 24 points of Williams in the series after Williams failed to finish the second race of the round at Hampton Downs.

Cooley was thrilled with the result. "I'm very happy! We made the most of the speed we had in the Speedy Signs Falcon all weekend long and converted it into solid results."

The series now heads to the South Island after the Christmas break with rounds at Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna in Christchurch and Teretonga Park, Invercargill during January. Cooley makes no secret of the fact he can't wait - "bring it on," he says.

Cooley was also quick to thank his crew for another "job well done" this weekend and also expressed his gratitude to his sponsors.

Brock Cooley Motorsport is based in Lower Hutt and the Speedy Signs Falcon carries support this season from Speedy Signs and Lower Hutt based Stevens Ford & Mazda Ltd along with longtime supporters Gaskin Ford & Mazda, Macbilt Engineering, Ashton Panel & Paint, Duncan Partition Installations, BC Contracting and EmbroidMe.

This is Cooley's third season in the TL Class of the Championship. He finished fourth in the 2013/2014 championship to secure the Rookie Of The Year title and eighth last season despite electing to miss the two South Island rounds. Prior to that Cooley was the NZGT Champion in the IRC Racing Categories.
