"Cougars Only" at Circ Theatre Night

Wellington’s Circa Theatre to host Cougars Only Night to support ‘Hillary Clinton’s Young Lover’ film.

A group of Wellington filmmakers are raising eyebrows in their quest to raise capital.

Arthur Meek & Geoff Pinfield are running a PledgeMe campaign to help make a film version of their successful live show “Hillary Clinton’s Young Lover.” The film will be directed by Wellington’s Dean Hewison.

The one-off show at Circa Theatre on Thursday 28th of Jan will be ‘Cougars Only’. The Online Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines cougar as “a large American wild cat with a plain tawny to grayish coat.” But these animals only exist between Patagonia and Canada. Wellington’s cougars are more likely to fit the informal definition of “an older woman seeking a sexual relationship with a younger man.”

A PledgeMe site for the film offers single and double passes to the show, which is advertised as “a tasteful Christmas present for your mother.” So far, four tickets have been sold.

Arthur is terribly uncomfortable with being treated as a sex object, but acknowledges “I need the money.”

Each audience member will be presented with a glass of Rosé and a fake rose on arrival. They will then receive a collective wooing from Arthur’s character Richard Meros, B.A. as he presents the conditions and possibilities of Hillary Clinton taking him as her Young Lover. The show premiered in New York earlier in the year and was described by New York Magazine as “demented.”

Even though the show is pitched as ‘delightfully earnest fun’, Arthur insists that he is taking the spirit of ‘Cougar Night’ seriously. All audience members must be women who have attained 40+ years of grace and wisdom. “We will be ID-ing at the door,” he says, “no caterpillars to be admitted. Just butterflies.”
