TITUS

Directed by Benjamin Henson
Starring James Roque, Eli Matthewson, Cole Jenkins,

Award-winning theatre company Fractious Tash bring their smash hit rework of Shakespeare’s bloodiest tragedy back to Auckland audiences after selling out in 2013. TITUS will be unleashed at the Pop-up Globe for five public shows only from 13th – 20th March 2016.Prepare for a carnal, boundary-breaking ride when this explosive all-male cast of seven take to the stage once more under the neoteric direction of Benjamin Henson.

“Everyone should see a production of Shakespeare this vital, immediate and provocative.”
Theatreview

Set within a wasteland where power is brutality, a tribe of scavengers clamber among the debris to find anything that will help them retell the story of a legend – Titus Andronicus and his mutilated daughter, Lavinia. These lost boys invest their toys with the fervour of abandonment: in their fantasies of war and revenge teddy-bears bleed but boys do not. As scruples are abandoned and the stakes grow dizzily higher, Titus encapsulates the one thing we all know but fail to learn from – revenge is a childish pursuit.

Performing both male and female roles, the brutal boys are back! The powerful ensemble includes two time Billy T Award nominee Eli Mathewson (Funny Girls, Snort, Earnest), comedian James Roque (TV3’s AotearoHA: Next Big Things, Kiss The Fish) and actor David Sutherland (Hope and Wire, Earnest).

Fractious Tash is led by artistic director Benjamin Henson and producer Jason Hodzelmans. Formed in 2012 with a controversial production, Confessions, the company quickly won the Wellington Fringe Rogue Award. TITUS was snapped up by Q Theatre's 'Q Presents...' 2013 programme, rousing audiences and receiving critical acclaim at sell-out performances. Recent Fractious Tash hits have been the dandy-inspired sell-out show Earnest, and their daring thriller slasher Not Psycho.

Pop-up Globe Auckland is a full-scale working temporary replica of the second Globe Theatre originally built by Shakespeare and his company in 1614, the result of ground-breaking international academic research. With a steel frame ‘skinned’ in plywood the Pop-up Globe fuses cutting-edge scaffold technology with 400-year-old designs and superb contemporary performances to create an immersive 360 degree experience unlike any other.
