There’s nothing quite like a Cabaret, aye?

But if youse were expecting a night of jokes about dongs, thongs, and sing-alongs, you’re wrong. See, Joana Simmons is a performer from Wanganui who since living in Australia for 5 years has had a bogan Aussie techie called Tate take residence inside her. Tate's "seen it all behind the scenes" and thinks that cabaret has become repetitive and uninspired. It needs more G'Day!

Tate, Joana and a few of her other alter egos pride themselves on working outside the square of sequins and suspenders and this show packed with satirical songs, physical comedy and puns a plenty has the quips and quirks guaranteed to put the G’Day in Cabaret, regardless of what side of the ditch you’re on.

Putting the G’Day in Cabaret mixes some 80’s pop essentials with original music by Carmen O’Brien (Rapskallion) and Jamie Burgess (Handsome Devil, Once Were Warriors the Musical, Impromptunes). Audiences will be guaranteed to find something to tap their toes to (“A Tappy Day to You”) or find them selves kind-of-maybe amused by the ironic harmonics of “It’s not easy being a hipster."

Hailing from Wanganui, Joana Simmons was in Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ's Young Shakespeare Company and performed at The Globe Theatre in London in 2008. She moved to Melbourne to study musical theatre at Jason Coleman's Ministry of Dance in 2010, and has performed in a variety of genres and festivals including; Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Falls Festival and Rainbow Serpent. She was a semi-finalist with “Miss Friby (and the Fribbles)” on Australia’s Got Talent.
