David Bowie Memorabilia Helps Raise Over $20,000

David Bowie Memorabilia Helps Raise Over $20,000 For Local Charity

A guitar signed by superstar David Bowie and sold at auction has netted a windfall for a local New Zealand charity.

Leading Charity Auction Services provider, Helping Hand Group, conducted the proceedings that led to a final bid of just over $20,000 for the classic piece of memorabilia.

David Bowie collectables have been hot items, since his untimely death from cancer last month aged 69.

A mystery purchaser – and self-confessed major fan paid for the guitar which was authenticated as being signed by Bowie in a private dressing room following a dinner at the Cipriani Wall Street restaurant and events centre in New York in April 2011. Both the purchaser and charity asked to remain anonymous.

“There has obviously been huge interest in David Bowie memorabilia recently,” said Helping Hand Group CEO, Adam Herodotus. “From time to time we have had Bowie items and they have always received a high price for the charity but nothing like this.”

Herodotus also confirmed that Helping Hand Group's Memorabilia Experts were fortunate to secure a small number of David Bowie guitars that the superstar had signed back in November to coincide with the release of his 25th album - Blackstar.

“At the time, we had no idea that within a few short weeks the world would be in shock and Bowie's legions of fans in deep mourning,” he added. “We are very hopeful that these other David Bowie guitars will also raise record funds for the charities.”
