Auckland City Limits Opens up Its Festival Bars

Auckland City Limits Opens up Its Festival Bars

Auckland City Limits is departing from past music festival restrictions by allowing fans 18 years and over to enjoy a drink site-wide at the all ages festival, not be confined to fenced bar zones.

“We’re putting the days of caged drinking pens behind us,” says promoter Campbell Smith. “You can now enjoy everything we have on offer at Auckland City Limits - the bands, art, great food and vibe of the festival - all while enjoying a drink wherever you are. You won’t have to stay in one place to have a beer.”

As part of this fresh approach to service and consumption, City Limits’ main GA stadium and field bars will only be serving mid-strength (up to 3.5% alcohol by volume) standard drinks from the Lion range, including Mac’s Mid Vicious Pale Ale, Mac’s Mid Tempo Cloudy Apple Cider and pre-mixed spirit drinks, specially concocted for the festival by Lion’s mixologists.

The general access Golden Dawn bar on the lakeside and the VIP ticketed area of the festival will serve a wider range of drinks including full-strength offerings in the only R18 environments on site. Drinks served in these two zones will not be able to be removed from these areas.

“12 hours at a music festival is a very long day. While we want to treat our audience with respect by not penning them behind wire fences in bar areas, we also want to encourage and help everyone to make it safely to the end. ” says Smith.

Through its event partnership with Lion, Auckland City Limits is supporting the Cheers! public education campaign encouraging people to ‘drink like there’s a tomorrow’. Cheers! will have a strong presence at ACL, helping audience members to hydrate and pace themselves by providing free water and information about standard drinks.
