Red Cross Celebrates Good People Doing Good Things

Red Cross Celebrates Good People Doing Good Things This March

New Zealand Red Cross is calling on Kiwis to help celebrate the good work its people are doing across New Zealand and around the world this March.

New Zealand Red Cross volunteers, members and staff spend thousands of hours doing good work every week, helping in communities across New Zealand and around the world.

Red Cross does a lot of good, from delivering hot meals, providing community transport for people in need and resettling newly arrived former refugees, to helping after the earthquakes, reuniting families, working with our Pacific and overseas neighbours, and teaching life-saving skills.

New Zealand Red Cross Secretary General Tony Paine says none of this work would be possible without the efforts of good people across the country.

“Red Cross wouldn’t be what it is today without good people doing good things. When we each do a little bit of good, together we make a big difference.

“Our volunteers, fundraisers, aid workers, donors, members and staff are the strength behind what we do. We're incredibly lucky to have these passionate, dedicated and generous people supporting us, helping us to do the good work Red Cross is known for.”

This year, New Zealand Post is supporting the campaign, helping Red Cross share its stories through a series of postcards.

Kiwis can find the postcards, featuring 14 different Red Cross stories, in every New Zealand Post shop. The postcards profile a wide range of good people, all doing good things in communities across New Zealand and overseas.

New Zealand Post is encouraging its customers to do good too, by dropping some change in the donation box, picking up a postcard and sending it to a friend.

“A little change can do a lot of good. We're hoping Kiwis will get on board and share the good work Red Cross does sending these beautiful postcards far and wide,” says New Zealand Post sponsorship spokesperson Charles Ropitini.

New Zealand Red Cross volunteers will also be out and about during March, ready to exchange a coin for a smile.

With the help of more than 12,500 staff, volunteers and members, Red Cross has been active in New Zealand for more than 100 years supporting, people in need both locally and internationally.

New Zealand Red Cross is part of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the largest humanitarian network in the world, reaching 150 million people though the work of over 17 million volunteers.
