Celebrating Walk2Work Day Today

Celebrating Walk2Work Day Today

Thousands of New Zealanders prepare to take to the streets tomorrow and get the huge health benefits of walking to work or school. Walk2Work Day 9 March recognises these significant physical and mental benefits by celebrating the walk journey.

In Wellington alone over 18,000 people will walk all the way to work, and walking is a part of every public transport journey too – a further 17,000 Wellingtonians will commute by bus or train.

Living Streets will be checking out the newly renovated Masons Lane in the morning and talking with passers-by – those large globe lights are a feature.

There’s more stepping out to do in Wellington as the day progresses with Park(ing) spots re-imagined around Wellington and walks a plenty in our Parks.

Living Streets Aotearoa started the annual Walk2Work day in 2009 to promote walking, its health benefits, and its important role in sustainable transport systems. On Wednesday people nation-wide are encouraged to give walking a go. There will be events happening in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Wherever you are you can give walking a go – it all starts with the first step.
