Auckland City Limits: Important Information

Auckland City Limits: Important Information

Setting aside the not insignificant matter of it being your only chance to see artist-of-a-generation Kendrick Lamar as he tours not only his seminal album To Pimp A Butterfly but the chart-toppinguntitled set he casually dropped at the weekend, here’s a few pointers for your day at Western Springs next Saturday.

Tickets and wristbands… you’ll need BOTH. Please bring that Ticketmaster ticket along to the show, even if you have had your wristband delivered already. If you don’t have your wristband yet, we’ll issue one to you at the gate.

If you want to avoid queues on the day, head down to the festival box office at Western Springs by the Bullock Track corner. It’s open from 12 noon to 6pm from Wednesday to Friday next week to issue wristbands and Cashless top-ups. The box office opens at 9am on the day of the show.

Cashless… is the magic process for all money transactions that will speed up everyone’s day at City Limits. RFID technology in the wristband everyone wears will enable you to top-up from stations around the site (using cash, eftpos or credit cards) to spend at all bars, food outlets, merch and market stalls. Remember this is the ONLY way you can purchase anything at ACL. No vendors will accept cash or cards.

You can refund your unspent wristband balance at the end of the day or after the festival. Details at aucklandcitylimits.com.

Bringing the kids? Great, they are gonna have a ball. We need to wristband them too at our tag-a-kid tent at the gate, prior to entry. If your child is ten or under but looks older, make sure you bring some ID for him or her. But remember the important bit is that we are letting kids 10 and under in free.

Speaking of ID. If you are 18 and over and planning to drink alcohol, you’ll need some ID too because our site is like a huge pub. There are two R18 zones – VIP and Golden Dawn – but the rest of the site is like a giant open air family friendly beer garden with incredible food and absolutely mindblowing music all day long.

What are you drinking out of? It’s a Globelet. Everyone is drinking out of Globelets at City Limits. These are eco-friendly hard recycled souvenir cups, not squishy cracking plastic beer-spilling vessels that make the dolphins cry. There is a $2 deposit you can get back from the bar if you want. Or you can take them home as a souvenir to prove that you were at the very first Auckland City Limits.

Pass Outs? You can leave and return from the festival site up to three times during the day if you want. Maybe to drop the kids with a relative who doesn't need to see Kendrick Lamar as badly as we all do. No problem.

What can you bring? Heaps of things actually. Kids, phones, ticket, ID, sunblock, folding chairs, small snacks if you really have to. Check our website where it tells you what NOT to bring, including those dreaded selfie sticks.

What’s free? Water, kids, art, love.

What can you buy? Drinks, food, including many vegetarian and gluten free options, merchandise, interesting little items (food, arty bits, clothy things) from market stalls. We even have a courier company on site if you want to buy something and not carry it with you for the rest of the day!
