IPENZ Awards to recognise engineering excellence

IPENZ Awards to recognise engineering excellence

The successes of New Zealand’s top engineers will be recognised this month at the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand’s (IPENZ) 2016 Fellows’ and Achievers’ Awards.

The awards ceremony on Friday 18 March at Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre, will celebrate individual achievement, technical expertise, and commitment to the engineering profession. There will be 11 awards in fields from clean technology to transportation.

The awards night will also recognise members with the awarding of Fellowships, Honorary Fellowships and Distinguished Fellows. These are awarded for extraordinary contributions to the engineering profession.

IPENZ Chief Executive Susan Freeman-Greene says the awards are an important opportunity to celebrate the success of Kiwi engineers at home and abroad.

“The expertise of IPENZ engineers is often drawn on in times of crisis, but recognition of their daily work can go unnoticed.

“This year we are bringing the industry together to celebrate the success of IPENZ members working as far away as Rio de Janeiro to Ahipara.

“These are IPENZ members whose reputations have seen them hand-picked to support largescale international projects like the 2016 Rio Olympics, or whose expertise and Kiwi ingenuity has literally opened new doors for rural communities.

“In every award category there are nominees whose work raises the bar for the engineering industry at large.

“For IPENZ that’s what the awards are all about; recognising talent in our industry and telling our members’ success stories so we might encourage and inspire the next generation of engineers,” Susan Freeman-Greene says.
