Orchestra Wellington Director’s career goes trans-Pacific

Orchestra Wellington Music Director’s career goes trans-Pacific

Orchestra Wellington Music Director Marc Taddei has accepted the directorship of the Vallejo Symphony, effective immediately. His role with the California orchestra will complement the work he does in Wellington, Marc Taddei says.

“I’m pleased to say my work with Orchestra Wellington will carry on as before,” Taddei says. “One of the happy side effects of having orchestras in the Northern and Southern hemispheres is the fact that seasons are reversed, minimising conflicts to practically nil,” he says. “If anything, I’m looking forward to the wonderful cross pollination effect that my living in both countries will have on both of these great Pacific Rim orchestras.”

Taddei first conducted the Vallejo Symphony in January of this year. He says he was impressed with their wealth of talent, their assured grasp of different styles, and their enthusiasm.

The Vallejo Symphony has performed in the San Francisco Bay Area for 85 years. It draws its players from the large population of highly gifted musicians who make the area their home.
Taddei says he is looking forward to working and living in one of the most diverse communities in the United States.

Taddei has been Orchestra Wellington’s Music Director since 2007. A graduate of the prestigious Julliard School of Music, Taddei frequently conducts every professional orchestra in New Zealand as well as working regularly with the national ballet and opera companies.

Outside of New Zealand, Marc is routinely re-invited to guest conduct the major Australian orchestras and returns every year to conduct in the United States. He made his debut with the New York City Ballet in late 2012 and was immediately invited to conduct a full season the following year. Recent debuts include performances with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Xiamen Symphony Orchestra with cellist, Wendy Warner in China.

Marc’s impressive discography includes over thirty recordings on the Sony, BMG, Koch, Columbia, ABC Classics, Trust, ASV, Universal, Rattle, Atoll, Concordance, and Kiwi Pacific labels, and many of his discs are featured in streaming audio on the Naxos music library web site. Recent recording activity includes the soundtrack to the 2015 Legendary Pictures production of “Krampus”, also released by Waxwork Records.
