Experiencing energy first-hand at MOTAT these holidays

The team at MOTAT is gearing up for their lively new school holiday experience starting Saturday 16 April. The focus will be on all things ‘energy’, from the powerful laws of nature that govern it to how it is harnessed and used every day.

Museum Experience Coordinator, Andrew McCartney has been involved with planning the science based activities over the past few months. He explains how these pay particular attention to the transformation of power between potential and kinetic energy.

“Visitors will feel just like a superhero when they discover first-hand how energy is a force all around us which can never be created or destroyed, only transformed,” says Andrew.

‘The Force – Energy Go!’ includes such wonders as a special arena where participants must race against the clock to score as many tags as possible. The pace will be a fast and fun expression of kinetic energy in its purest form – movement. The experience also features pop-up science labs, a chill-out kinetic art area and a ball pit with a twist to demonstrate the effects of physical forces such as inertia and momentum. Pre-schoolers will enjoy the unique obstacle course designed to focus their play on movement.

“This holiday experience is about bringing science and technology alive for MOTAT visitors,” says Andrew. “We’re taking the study of energy out of the laboratory and bringing it into everyday life.”
