CATCH ‘EM BEFORE THEY TAKE OFF!

NEW ZEALAND COMEDY TRUST PRESENTS
NEXT BIG THINGS - AUCKLAND
HOSTED BY BEN HURLEY

The future of comedy is here with Next Big Things, showcasing fresh comedians in this impressively hilarious stand-up show on Saturday the 23rd of April in Rangatira at Q Theatre. This is your chance to catch some home-grown locals before they’re so big they end up in Taylor Swift’s crew.

Host Ben Hurley (TV3's 7 Days) together with the New Zealand Comedy Trust have hand-picked the line-up of talented comedians, who are making their name with awesome new material on the Auckland comedy circuit and beyond. Previous Next Big Things graduates are going strong, with many of them bringing solo shows to the Comedy Fest this year. From Guy Williams to Urzila Carlson to Tom Furniss, previous comics have springboarded from this platform to build and expand their career.

Our Next Big Things for 2016 are:

Angella Dravid - Enticingly dark and perfectly strange, Angella brings a unique and unpredicatable presence to the stage. As seen on Funny Girls, and winner of Best Newcomer at the 2015 Comedy Guild Awards.
Brendan Kelly – With an undeniably captivating presence on stage, Brendan draws the audience in with his heart-felt tales before surprising us with his surreal imagination. In 2014, Brendan was a Raw Comedy Quest Finalist.
David McCartney – With his self-deprecating yet contagiously charismatic personality, McCartney’s double life will unravel right before your eyes. Dave was a finalist in the 2015 Raw Comedy Quest.
Donna Brookbanks – Donna embraces her irresistible quirk in her stand-up, making for a colourful explosion of curiosity and intrigue. A main player in the weekly improv show, Snort, Donna is well-versed in getting the audience LOL-ing.
The Fan Brigade – Taking Auckland by storm, The Fan Brigade are armed with a stringed instrument and they’re not afraid to use it. As seen on AotearoHA: Rising Starsand 7 Days, and awarded Best Newcomer at the 2014 NZ Comedy Guild Awards, The Fan Brigade are a musical comedy duo with something to say.
Frickin Dangerous Bro – NZ’s brownest, funniest and cockiest sketch comedy trio consisting of stand-up comedians Jamaine Ross, James Roque and Pax Assadi. All accomplished stand-up comedians in their own right, together they take it to the next level with sharp comedic wit and energetic sketches. As seen on AotearoHA: Rising Stars.
Louise Beuvink – Louise will have you gasping and in fits of laughter with her mix of biting wit and uncomfortable personal stories. Delightfully dry and with welcomed darkness, Louise was nominated Best Female Comedian in the 2014 Comedy Guild Awards.
Melanie Bracewell – With goofy observations and natural stage charisma, Melanie is a master of anecdotes. Winner of the 2015 National Raw Comedy Quest.
Scott W Long – An outgoing introvert, Scott’s wit, tomfoolery and honesty will have you in stitches. In 2015 Scott was a Raw Comedy Quest Finalist.
Tony Lyall – A confident slacker with an endearing nature, Tony takes the audience on a trip. Tony was a Raw Comedy Quest Semi-Finalist in 2015.
