Newshub & Story’s Ratings Clean Sweep

For the first time since launch week, Newshub Live at 6pm won its timeslot against One News, out-rating its competitor in key 25-54, 18-39 and 18-49 demographics.

Last night (Monday 11th April), TV3’s 6pm news bulletin, hosted by Mike McRoberts and Hilary Barry, secured a 9.3 rating (179,600* viewers) versus an 8.7 rating (167,600* viewers) on TV One in 25-54.

Story, TV3’s 7pm current affairs programme hosted by Duncan Garner and Heather du Plessis-Allan, followed this lead by outperforming competitorSeven Sharp, securing a 6.6 rating (127,300* viewers) against a 5.5 rating (105,400* viewers) in its target demographic of 25-54. This marks the third time in 2016 the programme has outperformed its competitor.

Newshub’s TV ratings success was consistent across the day, with Paul Henry matching its competitor Breakfast, both securing a 1.8 rating in 25-54. Newshub Late, hosted by Samantha Hayes, secured a 2.0 rating (37,900* viewers) against Tonight’s 1.7 rating (33,300* viewers) in 25-54.

MediaWorks Acting Chief News Officer Richard Sutherland said, “Following the launch of Newshub, we’re thrilled to see New Zealanders engage with our modern, dynamic news service.”

“We’re committed to bringing our audience the best news, with the best journalists, across all platforms – and while last night’s ratings are early days, it’s gratifying to see viewers switching to our TV news programmes to watch Mike, Hilary, Duncan, Heather and the rest of the team.”
