Adam Liaw to showcase simple Japanese food at home

Wellington, New Zealand - The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) will be hosting culinary seminars in Wellington, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia to showcase how easy it is for New Zealand and Australian consumers to have delicious Japanese food at home.

The seminar in Wellington will feature Adam Liaw, cook, author, 2010 MasterChef Australia winner and host of the television series Destination Flavour as well as Wellington based sushi chef Tatsushi Mikuni. Liaw and Mikuni will conduct a live demonstration on how to use ingredients from Japan to make simple, delicious Japanese dishes at home.

The seminar will be held on 5 May 2016 and will be open to the public.

Featured ingredients will include Japanese yellowtail, scallops and rice as well as pairings with sake. The seminar will be free of charge and will be held at Shed 5 in Lambton Harbour, with limited seats available. Participants will be given an opportunity to taste the dishes for themselves. Consumers will be able to register to attend the event at bit.ly/tasteofjapanwellington from 13th April 2016.

The seminar in Wellington will be followed by seminars in Sydney on the 9th and 10th of May 2016.

The seminars are part of the ministry’s Taste of Japan promotion, which will also feature a television commercial aired on TV3 in New Zealand (from 1st May), SBS in Australia (from 1st May) and the National Geographic channel (from 25th April), also featuring Liaw.

This project is being implemented as a consignment business of the Food Industry Affairs Bureau,Food Culture and Market Development Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
