Action packed night promised for Edible Fashion Awards

Action packed night promised for Edible Fashion Awards

An action packed night is promised at this year’s Hastings Pak’nSave Edible Fashion Awards with Auckland-based circus theatre company, The Dust Palace announced as entertainment.

Combining amazing agility and strength with stunning choreography, The Dust Palace will present three performances at the Evening Extravaganza on Saturday the 11th of June at Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay.

Event Manager Odette Bowyer says securing The Dust Palace as entertainment is a huge coup. “The Dust Palace are the perfect accompaniment to the fantastical creations which will be modeled on the stage – it’s going to be an incredible night!”

Co-director of The Dust Palace, Eve Gordon says the troupe is delighted to be supporting the Hastings Pak’nSave Edible Fashion Awards. “We think it's massively important to always support the community around us...none of us have any money to give to charity so this is what we can give - our art, our skills and our entertainment!”

The company also sees the Awards as aligning well with their own philosophy of giving a hand up to talented individuals. “We love these community shows where everyone is encouraged to give it a go - it's the ethos we began our Auckland based circus school and scholarship program with,” says Ms Gordon.

The Dust Palace formed a special affinity with Hawke’s Bay when their first professional theatre show was staged at the Hawke’s Bay Opera House in 2010. While they have returned to perform in the Bay on several subsequent occasions, their last performance was four years ago. “We've grown and changed and developed so much since then, we can't wait to come and share the new Dust Palace with the Hawke’s Bay public,” say Ms Gordon.

Ms Bowyer says the ongoing support for the Awards from the entertainment industry as well as business and community organisations proves the enduring popularity of the event. “The high level of support we receive year after year is testament to what a great event this is for Hawke’s Bay,” says Ms Bowyer.

At the heart of the Hastings Pak’nSave Edible Fashion Awards is local sponsorship which this year has enabled the organisers to waive the entry fee. Many of the sponsors have had a long association with the Awards including naming sponsor, Hastings Pak’n Save who have been supporting the event since its inception. Now into its 11th year, this support has seen the Awards grow from small beginnings into an iconic Hawke’s Bay event.

Newer sponsors see the Awards as an ideal opportunity to align themselves with an established and popular Hawke’s Bay event.

These include MCL Construction Limited, which is responsible for the construction of the Village Exchange and Porter’s Boutique Hotel in Havelock North. Hastings District Council has also extended its support, by agreeing to become a category sponsor under its Keep Hastings Beautiful banner.

Major Hawke’s Bay food producer McCain Foods Limited says the event aligns perfectly with the region’s abundance of fresh produce and food production industries. “New Zealand’s growers produce some of the world’s most high quality vegetables and what better way than to showcase this produce than in an edible fashion show. McCain is proud of the relationships we have with our growers, and communities in which they live, and this sponsorship is another small way to support the local community,” says New Zealand Sales Manager, Sarah Brown.

Ms Bowyer says with this support, the Hastings Pak’nSave Edible Fashion Awards is in good heart to continue well into the next decade.

“This is the only creative design show of its kind in Hawke’s Bay and judging by the high level of support and record of number of entries, it’s set to grow even bigger in coming years.”
